Before the Tutorial
A few simple things can help you get the most out of your tutorial.
Do:
- Arrive on time for your appointment; if you must miss the appointment, be sure to call and inform the Writing Center. (715-232-5284)
- Bring along at least one hard copy of your paper or writing project. Bring along the assignment whenever possible.
- Come to the tutorial with specific items to discuss or work on.
Don't:
- Wait until the last minute or the day before your writing assignment is due to schedule an appointment; you will not have adequate time to revise and develop your work.
During the Tutorial
Here are a couple things to keep in mind during the tutorial.
Do:
- Provide the tutor with any relevant information about your progress on and approach to the writing project and your writing process in general.
- Keep an open mind when sharing your writing and receiving tutor feedback.
- Take notes during the tutorial which you can use later for revision.
Don't:
- Expect the tutor to correct or “fix” your paper for you; the tutor will collaborate with you to solve problems, suggest revisions, etc.
- Expect the tutor to proofread or edit your work; this is your responsibility.
- Expect the tutor to discuss or predict your grades on particular assignments; these discussions need to take place with your instructor, not the tutor.
- Expect the tutor to solve problems which are unrelated to your writing assignment or your progress as a writer.
