The web publishing standards contained in this site are included by reference in the UW-Stout Web Information Policy and apply to all websites which provide official information about, or on behalf of, UW-Stout. These standards are approved by the Web Oversight Committee.

Individual and department sites each represent a unique part of our university, and combined together with all other university sites, create one large site for users to navigate. To help users quickly find what they are seeking, and recognize official content, these standards provide:

  • UW-Stout identity for all parts of the site
  • a predictable structure
  • consistent layouts and navigation
  • accuracy across the site

Permission to Publish on Behalf of the University

Any officially recognized UW-Stout unit, department, project, or program may publish websites as needed, and individual faculty, academic staff, staff and students may publish home pages.

The university website uses CommonSpot, a web content management system, as the primary publishing tool. All official sites must use:

    • the standard CommonSpot templates, or
    • an exact replica provided by the CommonSpot administrator.

Third-party applications and/or outside vendors providing official UW-Stout websites should request UW-Stout graphic banners by emailing

Publication of websites via UW-Stout systems or servers implies your agreement to abide by the UW-Stout Web Information Policy and these standards.
