University of Wisconsin - Stout

Overview

The recent purchase of CommonSpot, a Web content management system, will simplify Web publishing for the entire campus, although we estimate an implementation period of up to two years. Presently, our official publishing method consists of the university template system used with Dreamweaver and/or Contribute Web authoring software. Both are available for purchase via the Wisconsin Integrated Software Catalog (WISC).

Faculty and instructors have several options for publishing a home page.

Here are the basic options for everyone else:
Contribute maintenance

Our office produces your pages or assists your student employee to convert your present site to the university templates, and you purchase Macromedia Contribute for updates and maintenance of content.

Department or unit authored pages

Departments, offices or units may produce their own Web pages using the university templates and styles in cooperation with the Web coordinator. You may provide Web documents for posting (for infrequent changes) or request server access to transfer your documents directly to the server (more frequent updates).

Department owned server

If you choose this option, you must follow university identity standards, Web policy and use UW-Stout templates.

Academic department sites

The Web coordinator provides basic home pages with contact information, department staff and links to degree program sites for all academic departments. Departments may provide photographs and links to be added to these sites. Additional pages or sections are also welcome. There is an established file-naming convention for additions to the department sites--please contact Barbara Button if you would like to add sections to your site.

Departments may also produce their own home page and any additional content themselves, using the university templates and styles, and may request server access from the Web coordinator to do so. Sites will be reviewed before activation (and periodically thereafter) for compliance with university standards.

Faculty and instructors have several options for creating individual home pages and Web sites.

Administrative unit content

Your department or unit may develop and publish a Web site in accordance with the Stout Web Publishing Standards on this Website. The Web coordinator provides templates, photographs, and technical support and consultation. Additional images are available from the university editor or from the UW-Stout photography collection.

Degree program information

All academic and curricular information on the Website is published by the university editor as program and course descriptions change, rendering the Web version the most current. All UW-Stout Web authors must link to the information in these documents rather than re-writing or re-creating similar documents. You must refer to degree programs by their official name. For more information about official program and course descriptions, please contact the Provost's office.

Don Steffen, University Editor, produces and publishes degree program information for the Provost's office. Supplementary information for program Web sites is welcome, and must follow university identity standards. Contact Don (steffend; x1239) if you would like to publish supplemental information for your program site.
