Official UW-Stout Information
Information published by an officially recognized Stout office, project, program or area is considered official information, may bear the Stout logo, and should conform to UW-Stout identity and publishing standards. Pages published by student organizations and personal pages by individual faculty, staff and students are considered unofficial and may not bear the logo.
Data that is maintained centrally for linking by all departments and units presently includes:
- Student Handbook
- Graduate and Undergraduate Bulletins
- College, Department and Program pages
- Admissions website
- Directories
- Calendars and Events
- Stout's mission and goals, facts and other general information
Academic information (course and program descriptions and curriculum) on the web site is updated through a process that includes appropriate approvals as program and course descriptions change, rendering the web version the most current. All department web authors must link to the information in these documents rather than re-writing or re-creating similar documents.
For more information about how program and course descriptions become official, please contact the Provost's office.
Advertising and Sponsorship
Stout's website does not publish paid advertisements. Links to external commercial sites which sell products or services which are not essential to the academic or administrative activities of the university must be text only (for example, some instructors recommend Amazon.com as a source for course materials; a text-only link is permitted). Links to software downloads and the website's official search engine may be presented using the vendor's smallest logo or button as a link (e.g., Acrobat Reader and other plug-ins).
Pages or sections supported by non-university sponsors or grantors may carry a text-only acknowledgment of the sponsor's role.
Links to other sites
The links included within the university's web pages may point to non-university websites. Links are limited to those that meet the purposes of the university, and the university is not responsible for the contents of any linked site or any link contained in a linked site, including webcasting or other forms of transmission received from an external site, or any changes or updates to such sites. The university provides external links only as a service to our constituencies, and the inclusion of any link does not imply endorsement by UW-Stout or affiliation with the external organization.
Contact the webmaster for additional information or clarification.
Copyright Compliance
All offices, departments and individuals publishing web pages on the University's servers are responsible for complying with all copyright laws, rules and regulations. The Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) [pdf format], signed into law in October 1998, provides protections and responsibilities for both service providers and copyright owners concerning copyright infringement on the Internet. Any violation of copyright or any other law is the sole responsibility of the publisher of that information.
Sexual Harassment
Documents published on Stout's servers are subject to the Stout Policy Statement on Harassment.
