The application of choice for doing file transfers at Stout on a PC is WS-FTP. If you do not already have this program on your computer, please download it from the Network Software page.

Double-click on the icon to start the application. You should be presented with a window called Session Properties specifying where to connect to. Click on the New button to create a new connection site and fill in the fields so that they look like the following:

note: username and password should be filled in with your email username and password

Now click on the Startup tab at the top of the window and fill in the Initial Local Directory and the Initial Remote Directory.

The Initial Local Directory should be the drive and folder on your computer where your files are stored. The Initial Remote Directory is the folder on the server that contains your website -- for instructor home pages, it will be /faculty/username/.

For departmental or administrative sites, it will be the portion of the web site address (or URL) immediately following www.uwstout.edu. Examples:

Click OK when finished.

After you click OK you will be connected to the server. If everything is filled in correctly, you will see a list of all the files in your Initial Remote Directory (the server) on the right and Initial Local Directory (your computer) on the left. If you do not get this, double-check the information that you entered and try it again.

To disconnect from the server click Close and then Exit to close WS_FTP.
