Veterans and Military Service Members
At UW-Stout we are inspired by your service to our country. Allow us to serve you.
UW-Stout welcomes all veterans and military service members. We are committed to doing our very best to ensure that each student receiving benefits has the tools and resources available to successfully achieve their educational goals.
That said, we are here to serve you as a benefit recipient, and should you have any questions, concerns, or support needs, please let our office know and we will work to address your issues.
Certification of registration and academic standing is required by Veterans Affairs for participation in federal and state education programs through the Veterans' Administration.
The UW-Stout Veteran Services office will certify students for their current credit load, excluding courses that do not apply towards their degree, once the student has completed a Veteran Benefits Worksheet and followed the directions contained in the worksheet, such as completing other necessary VA applications (1990/1995, 5490/5495, and others) and/or submitting necessary paperwork (DD-214, copy of VA application, birth/marriage certificate, and the like). The veteran benefits worksheet should also be used by students receiving federal and state benefits, either in conjunction or individually, and students may submit one worksheet for both state and federal benefits if applicable.
Questions regarding late or short payments should be addressed initially to the St. Louis Regional VA Office by calling 1-888-442-4551 or visiting the St. Louis Regional VA Office Contact Website.

NOTICE: The Wisconsin GI Bill does not cover all educational costs. Only tuition and fees are covered; eStout charges and textbook fees are not covered by the Wisconsin GI Bill.
The Wisconsin G.I. Bill provides a waiver ("remission") of tuition for eligible veterans and their dependents for up to 8 full-time semesters or 128 credits at any University of Wisconsin-System or Wisconsin Technical College System institution. As of Summer 2010, veterans studying abroad are also eligible. Qualifying veterans receive a 100% remission of eligible tuition and segregated fees. An initial application must be made to the school within 14 days of the start of the semester.
For additional information, instructions or how to apply for the Wisconsin G.I. Bill see the WDVA B0105 information and application booklet.
A 100% remission is provided to the qualifying unremarried surviving spouse and children of a veteran who died in the line of duty, and to the spouse and children of a veteran with substantial service connected disabilities (combined VA service-connected disability rating of 30% or greater). For qualifying spouses, the benefit must be used within 10 years of the date of death or the initial disability rating of 30% or greater. For qualifying children, the benefit is available from ages 18 through 25. For the Wisconsin G.I. Bill, the veteran must have entered service as a Wisconsin resident. The benefit recipient must be a Wisconsin resident for tuition purposes in order to receive Wisconsin GI Bill benefits.
For additional information about residency requirements and restrictions, visit the UW System Residency for Tuition Purposes web page. This page also contains information about Federal Statute 20 U.S.C. 1015d — In-State Tuition Rates for Members of the Armed Forces on Active Duty, Spouses, and Dependent Children.
The Veterans Education (VetEd) Grant program provides a reimbursement grant based on a credit-bank system that is based on length of active duty military service to eligible veterans who have not yet been awarded a bachelor's degree for the reimbursement of tuition and fees following successful course completion at an eligible UW, technical college, or approved private institution of higher learning. A "pre-application" must be filed within 30 days of the start of the semester.
Veterans may concurrently receive Chapter 30 Montgomery G.I. Bill (VA) benefits and VetEd for the same semester. However, individuals eligible for Wisconsin G.I. Bill benefits must apply for, and use those benefits in order to be eligible for VetEd reimbursement.
The Wisconsin National Guard Tuition Grant Program will reimburse 100 percent of the actual tuition charged by the school or 100 percent of the maximum resident undergraduate tuition charged by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, whichever amount is less. A "pre-application" must be filed within 30 days of the start of the semester. A Guard member that has been activated cannot draw from both Wisconsin National Guard Tuition Grant Program and Veterans Education (VetEd) Reimbursement Grant Program.
