Extra Opportunities

Intramural Sports sponsors numerous events and opportunities for student, faculty, and staff to participate in.  Events are a fun and informal way to get involved Intramural Sports.  Here are some of the events and opportunities available:

Special Events

  • Residence Hall Week - Residence Halls will compete in three sports over three nights to determine an overall Res Hall champion.  2013 events will consist of Dodgeball, Volleyball and Kickball.  
  • The Annual Pre-season Basketball Tournament - Get ready for the basketball season in this tune up tourney.  The best teams from around the campus will be competing for a bid to compete at the WIRSA State basketball tournament.  
  • Intramural Sports Combine - See where you rank amongst the best athletes at Stout at the Intramural Sports Combine.  This multi-skill event includes: 3-cone drill, 40 yard dash, bench press, broad jump, shuttle, vertical jump and IM sports version of the wonderlic test.
  • Family Weekend Fun Run/Walk - Come enjoy this for FUN run/walk with your family and friends. The 5K route will take participants on a tour around Stout's beautiful campus. Registration on/before April 11th is $3, or $5 day of.  The 2014 Family Fun Run/Walk is on Saturday April 12th.

Extramurals

Extramurals are opportunities to play and compete with your Intramural team outside of UW-Stout.  There are tournaments for a variety of sports held all over the country and University Recreation will sponsor Intramural teams that are interested in going to compete.  In past years we have sent teams to St. Cloud State University to compete in an ice hockey tournament, the NIRSA Flag Football tournament in Omaha, Nebraska, and to Middle Tennessee State University for an ACIS sponsored Basketball Tournament.  There are 10-15 regional tournaments and one national tournament for flag football and basketball each year.  Please contact the Intramural Sports Coordinator for more information. Each year WIRSA holds a state basketball tournament at a different Wisconsin institution. In 2014 the tournament was held at Marquette University, and In 2015 UW-Stout will be proud to host the WIRSA State Basketball Tournament on February 20th and 21st. 

Online Intramurals

  • Intramural Fantasy Football - This ESPN based league will give you a chance to out strategize the most knowledgeable football minds from around campus.  
  • NCAA March Madness Tournament Brackets- This takes place during the NCAA basketball tournament and one overall winner is named.

NIRSA

NIRSA (National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association) is the primary organization for campus recreation.  NIRSA is the leading resource for professional and student development, education, and research in collegiate recreational sports.  NIRSA now includes nearly 4,000 highly trained professional, student and associate members throughout the United States, Canada and other countries. Serving an estimated 5.5 million students who regularly participate in campus recreational sports programs, NIRSA members are actively engaged in many areas of campus life: student leadership, development, and personnel management; wellness and fitness programs; intramural sports; sport clubs; recreation facility operations; outdoor recreation; informal recreation; and aquatic programs.

WIRSA

WIRSA (Wisconsin Intramural-Recreational Sports Association) is the Wisconsin's version of NIRSA.  The 2014 Wisconsin State Workshop will be held at UW-Whitewater. WIAA

WIAA (Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Association) is the governing body of High School sports for the State of Wisconsin.  Intramural Sports at UW-Stout bases a majority of its rules and policies on those set forth by NFHS. If you are interested in taking your officiating to the next level you can register with the WIAA and become certified.  Link to the WIAA website: www.wiaawi.org
