What is a Sport Club
The Sport Club program is a voluntary program organized for the purpose of promoting and developing skills and interest levels within a variety of different sports. Stout Sport Clubs are open to all valid students, faculty and staff. The executive board of each club handles the majority of the responsibilities associated with the club. Sport Clubs receive money from a variety of sources; student segregated fees, fundraising, club dues, and outside donations.
Who can Join a Stout Sport Club?
Sport Clubs are made up of any valid UW-Stout student, faculty or staff member. Each individual participating in a sport club will complete a membership form and sign a risk awareness form as the individual needs to under2007-02-16ssociated with their participation. *Faculty and Staff – student segregated fees cannot pay for any travel costs, dues, etc. for faculty and staff club members.
Forming a New Sport Club
UW-Stout students interested in starting a new club should submit an Organization Recognition/Start Up form to Sport Clubs Coordinator in the University Recreation Office in 41 Sports and Fitness Center (lower level near indoor track) along with the following components attached:
- Roster of at least 10 interested students demonstrating the demand for the club.
- Yearly calendar of proposed activities for the club.
- Yearly budget of expenses and revenues.
- Risk management review of the proposed activities for the club.
- Competitive league and a national governing body managing the sport.
- Constitution and by-laws for the club to follow.
New clubs are placed on probationary status for a period of no less than 1 year. In that time, do not receive any major funding, however they are able to request minimal financial assistance from the Sport Club Council Exec Board. Also, facility space is not guaranteed.
Though many of the sport clubs are competitive, they almost always welcome new members. Some clubs offer instructional and/or recreational opportunities.
