Converting files in Microsoft Office 2007 is a simple, but necessary task. Converting files from the old format of Office (97-2003) to the new version (2007) is necessary to take full advantage of all the new features of the Microsoft Office 2007 system.
To convert a file in Word 2007:
- Open the file you would like to convert with Word 2007.
- Click the Microsoft Office button
, then click Convert 
- Do one of the following:
- To replace the original file with a file in the Office Word 2007 file format, click the Microsoft Office Button
, and then click Save. - To save the original document in its original file format and create another document in the Office Word 2007 file format, click the Microsoft Office Button, click Save As, and then type a new name for the file.
- To replace the original file with a file in the Office Word 2007 file format, click the Microsoft Office Button
To convert a workbook in Excel 2007:
- Open the workbook that you want to convert to the current file format.
- Click the Microsoft Office Button
, and then click Convert.
- If you receive a message about converting workbooks, click OK.
- If you don't want to see this message about converting workbooks, select the Do not ask me again about converting workbooks.
- To work in the current file format, click Yes to close and reopen the workbook.
