Abstract
In lieu of writing a standard history paper,
students in three sections of a modern world history course (Hist 210) were
assigned a group project that required them to choose material from the class,
master it, and present it to their peers in a unique and technologically
dependent way. The project, referred to here as the History Music Video Project
(HMVP), gave students the opportunity to incorporate elements of their popular
culture into a world history course, and to make significant use of their laptops
and other technologies. Preliminary findings suggest that students genuinely
enjoyed the project, that they learned both historical and technical knowledge,
and that the project is eminently worthy of repeating in subsequent courses.
