2007-08 Wisconsin Teaching Fellows/Scholars Program
The final meeting of the 2007-08 Wisconsin Teaching Fellows/Scholars Program recently held in Milwaukee included two Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Projects presented on “Going Public Day,” by Matt Livesey and Jill Klefstad, both UW-Stout faculty. The progress of their projects is well under way and will be kept up to date for your viewing as their projects are completed. The Summer 2008 New Instructor Workshop
The Teaching and Learning Center, in conjunction with the Title III Project, will be sponsorinng a New Instructor Workshop August 19-21, 2008. New instructors will be contacted.

UW-Stout Pilot Academic Transformation Project, 2007-08
The Provost and the Teaching and Learning Center sponsored the 2007-08 Pilot Academic Transformation project. Two proposals, Fundamentals of Speech and ECON-210, were funded and both explore models of curriculum redesign that use collaborative teaching and UW-Stout’s digital learning environment in order to enhance student learning and curriculum consistency.
Second Life
Stout's Second Life group meets regularly to explore the educational possibilities of the Second Life enviromnent. Meetings occur both in "real life" and in Second Life. We assist faculty and staff who wish to have help creating avatars. A regular meeting schedule will be available shortly.

The Engagement Project
The Teaching and Learning Center and Title III are sponsoring the Engagement Project, a continuation of the engagement studies that have been completed in the past two years.
The goal of the interdisciplinary group is to determine to what extent instructor-facilitated engagement practices affect learning. Eight teachers are involved in the project: Jodi Olmsted, Jill Klefstad, Eileen Zito, Laura Schmidt, Nelu Ghenciu, Chris Lutz, Bill Murphy, and Sarah Wood. TLC director Dan Riordan facilitates the group.

Faculty Learning Community in Spring 2008
The TLC is sponsoring our first Faculty Learning Community. The focus of our Spring 2008 FLC is online pedagogies. Participants will meet weekly, read articles, plan, implement and assess a new teaching strategy, and report results to the University. The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) is devoted to the support of teaching and learning in the academic community.
The goal of the TLC is to encourage sharing and valuing of teaching and learning by all members of the University of Wisconsin-Stout community.
In addition, the TLC will work to create a climate in which colleagues find satisfaction in teaching and learning, enhance confidence about the effectiveness of teaching, and share effective learning practices.
