Stout Vocational Rehabilitation Institute

SVRI Open House

Thursday, October 23, 2014

9:00AM - 12:00PM

Please meet in Vocational Rehabilitation Building Lobby Area 101. One hour concurrent professional development sessions will be offered, starting promptly at 9:00.

Guided tours of our labs will follow the presentations at 10:00AM.

*Literacy Supports: Reading, Writing, Notetaking, and Organization Accommodations

This session will provide an overview and demonstrations on assistive technology tools and apps that can help students with reading, writing, note taking, and organization. At the end of the session, attendees will have a higher awareness of the different tools and features available. Case studies will be used to illustrate how the AT can be used in various situations.

*AT and Ethics...Should You? Could You? Would You?

The merging of mainstream and assistive technologies now presents us with more opportunities and challenges. Where is the line on who provides what device and when should AT be introduced during the rehabilitation process? This session will explore the "rights," the "wrongs," and the "in-betweens" related to assistive technology devices and services. Relying upon our ethical guidelines and the CRC Code of Ethics can help us navigate the assistive technology maze. Come and join the conversation.
