What if I receive a letter or an email from the Dean of Students Office requesting a meeting?
If you receive correspondence from the Dean of Students Office requesting a meeting, it is important that you schedule an appointment in a timely manner and keep it. Ignoring the situation will not make it go away and a decision could be made without your input and could potentially affect on your student status. The correspondence you receive will describe any charges and relating UWS Chapter violation along with contact information for the Dean of Students Office, 130 Bowman Hall, 715 232-1181.
If I am being charged in court, why do I also have to deal with the university and isnıt this double jeopardy?
Double jeopardy only applies to the criminal court system. Stout students are held accountable by the University for their behavior under the University of Wisconsin System Administrative Code, Chapters (14, 17, & 18).
What if I donıt schedule or show up for my meeting with the Judicial Affairs Officer?
If a meeting is not scheduled in a timely manner or a scheduled meeting is not attended, the Judicial Affairs Officer will make a decision regarding the matter without the studentıs point of view and input.
What if the incident happens off campus?
UW-Stout has jurisdiction off campus as outlined in UWS Ch. 17. The university is concerned with behaviors that have an effect on the community at large. Stout students represent the university in the community and any inappropriate/serious/dangerous behavior will have a negative affect on the universityıs status and reputation in the community. Even if an incident happens off campus involving Stout students, it may still be in violation of UWS Ch. 17.
