Applicable to all students enrolled at UW-Stout
Regular attendance is the responsibility of each student, and it is assumed that all students will attend the classes for which they are registered.
The attendance policy of each instructor is to be submitted in writing to each student in each class. It may be discussed with or explained to the students. While attendance is likely to affect the student's achievements, the instructor of the class is urged not to use attendance as a major percentage in the calculation of the student's mark for that class.
It is the student's responsibility to notify instructors of any situation that causes the student to miss class. Should the student be unable to reach an instructor, a message may be left with the department secretary. Notifying the instructor does not necessarily excuse the student from class or missed work/assignments.
When a student must be away from campus for an extenuating circumstance, and particularly if longer than one week, notification for student absences will be issued by the Dean of Students Office, 715-232-1181. Documentation is usually required. This notification does not change attendance policies put in effect by the instructor and is a courtesy memo only, letting the instructor know the whereabouts of the student. Using this process to determine excused absences and/or work assignments is determined by the instructor.
It is the responsibility of the student to initiate contact with their instructor regarding any missed work or exams.
Accommodations and procedures for missed material are at the discretion of the instructor.
For school-sanctioned events such as field trips, athletic contests and similar events, the coordinator of the event should send a list of the people attending the activity to the Dean of Students Office, and it will be kept on record. However, a notice will not be sent to instructors. If there are questions, instructors may contact Dean of Students Office, 715-232-1181.
