Want to Join?
The first step in joining the organization is to become knowledgeable base of what Phi Upsilon Omicron is all about. Talking to current members and looking at what the chapter and other chapters have done in the past is a great start. The National Phi U Bylaws provide detailed information regarding the organization.
Once invited into the organization, the initiation process begins. To apply you need an application, two recommendations and a brief interview. Once accepted, there is an initiation ceremony. This is formal meeting where all new members learn about the organization and what activities and projects they are expected to participate in.
Membership is open to men and women who meet the requirements for eligibility. The Honor Society has collegiate, alumni, local honorary and national honorary members.
Membership areas will include those recognized by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and related areas of specialization. http://www.aafcs.org/index.html. On UW-Stout's campus membership is open to undergraduate students enrolled in the following programs:
- Early Childhood
- Food Systems and Technology
- Family and Consumer Educational Services
- Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management
- Dietetics
- Human Development and Family Studies
- Apparel Design and Manufacturing
- Retail Merchandising and Management
- Graduate students enrolled in:
- Home Economics
- Food Science and Nutrition
- Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management
- Marriage and Family Therapy
If a student can make a case that their program supports the concept of "family" as defined by AAFCS, then the Phi U Executive Council will accept their application for review.
