Epsilon Pi Tau Philosophy

Epsilon Pi Tau, Inc. was founded at the Ohio State University in 1929 by a group of leaders in industrial education.  Since that time, the scope of the fraternity has grown, along with the impact on our world of ever more advanced technology.  The Theta Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau, the chapter which is based at UW-Stout, inducts new members from a variety of majors which will likely have an impact on future technologies.  With our ever changing world, it is increasingly important that all people become technologically literate and that every opportunity be taken to utilize technology in improving the world.  This can be done not only in the classroom, but also through design and application in industrial and business settings.

The ideals of Epsilon Pi Tau are evident in the Greek words which are represented by the letters EPT.  The Greek letter Epsilon represents EXETASIS, which stands for research.  The Greek letter Pi represents PRAGMATEIA, which stands for social efficiency, both among individuals and the broader relations of a profession.  The Greek letter Tau represents TEXNIKH, which stands for the development of technical skills.

Nomination to the Theta Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau indicates a belief that an individual possess these ideals.  EPT has faith that the nominees will become leaders in the advancement of technology and will help its members toward that end.  EPT can become a resource as well as a family from which members can get support.

Epsilon Pi Tau is an international organization with chapters throughout the world.  The national office publishes a journal which members receive as a part of their international fee.  Members of any chapter of EPT are welcome to participate with other chapters and to attend EPT functions at national events (i.e. national conventions).  There is also an awards program honoring the founder of Epsilon Pi Tau, William E. Warner.  This program includes competitions in essays and research with monetary prizes as well as recognition.
