Scholarships valued at more than $675,000 have been awarded to 375 University of Wisconsin-Stout students through the Stout University Foundation.

Students received the awards Thursday, Sept. 11, during an annual reception at the Memorial Student Center. Many of the donors and members of the Foundation Board of Directors attended and presented the awards.

Established in 1962, the Stout University Foundation Scholarship Program has helped more than 8,000 students receive a college education. Through the financial support of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends of the university, the program has awarded more than $10 million over the years.

Mark Parsons, vice chancellor for University Advancement and Marketing and Foundation executive director, said the scholarship event is the high point of the year for the Stout University Foundation.

“The Foundation is committed to helping students earn their degrees and achieve career ambitions, thus helping to grow the economy and serve a global society,” Parsons said. “Raising money for scholarships is among our highest priorities.”

Chancellor Bob Meyer was introduced and also spoke at the reception. In August he became the seventh leader in school history, succeeding Charles W. Sorensen.

Meyer congratulated the scholarship winners and thanked the donors. “The Foundation works year-round with our generous alumni and other donors to make this night and these awards possible. Together, we are proud to provide financial support to 375 deserving students,” Meyer said.
