Scholarships valued at more than $680,000 have been awarded to 360 University of Wisconsin-Stout students through the Stout University Foundation.

Students received the awards Thursday, Sept. 10, during an annual ceremony at the Memorial Student Center. Many of the donors and members of the Foundation Board of Directors attended and presented the awards.

Established in 1962, the Stout University Foundation Scholarship Program has helped more than 8,400 students receive a college education. Through the financial support of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends of the university, the program has awarded more than $10 million over the years.

Mark Parsons, vice chancellor for University Advancement and Marketing and Foundation executive director, said the Foundation takes great pride in working year-round to provide scholarships for students.

"These awards not only provide financial support but positive reinforcement for deserving students as they pursue their academic goals at UW-Stout. The Foundation's commitment to helping students is historic, ongoing and growing," Parsons said. "Raising money for scholarships is one of our strategic fundraising priorities."

Chancellor Bob Meyer also spoke. He commented about how he benefited from a scholarship when he was an undergraduate student at UW-Stout and affirmed the importance of the Foundation's work.

The emcee was Kelly Matter, a 1989 graduate and president of Resource Inc., a nonprofit based in Minneapolis.

Speaking at the donor reception was Tom Kornegor, Stout University Foundation president and a 1968 graduate.
