More than 90 student-athletes at University of Wisconsin-Stout were recognized Tuesday evening for their achievements in the classroom, as well as in competition.
This is the first time such a recognition was held at UW-Stout.
Fifteen
students qualified to receive a medallion, designed by UW-Stout
students, by taking a cumulative 3.5 grade-point average into the
semester before their final season of eligibility.
They are Alexa
Ahler, Waukesha; Daniel Drewek, Athens; Jake Duske, Montrose, Minn.;
Anne Guthrie, Fitchburg; Heather Harmeyer, Milwaukee; Leah Hauck, Lyndon
Station; Chris Haynes, Eau Claire; Cory Hedeen, Cannon Falls, Minn.;
Tara Kimberly, Baldwin; Jodi Larson, Baxter, Minn.; Lyndsey Melcher,
Watertown; Timothy Nelson, Augusta; Samantha Peterson, Hudson; Andrea
Rekdahl, Anoka, Minn.; and Nicole Seitz, Cumberland.
Another 76 underclassmen were recognized for maintaining a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
“These
student-athletes exemplify excellence, both in their educational
pursuits and their athletic endeavors,” said Chancellor Charles W.
Sorensen, who participated in the ceremony in the Great Hall of the
Memorial Student Center.
The medallion was designed by Kathryne
Mikutowski, from Stillwater, Minn., and Zakary Snell, from Castaic,
Calif. The medallion can be worn during graduation ceremonies.
Each honoree also invited an academic faculty or staff member who had a positive impact on their time at UW-Stout.
