Wisconsin Science and Technology Symposium

... partnerships to grow Wisconsin

Held July 17 - 18, 2008

University of Wisconsin-Stout Memorial Student Center

Bringing together UW System faculty and staff, private research organizations, and industry, the first annual Wisconsin Science & Technology Symposium presented a diverse array of research in biotechnology, nanotechnology, medical science and energy, and a rich potential for collaboration.

Governor Jim Doyle inaugurated the symposium by demonstrating the importance of early-state research and technology development to the economic growth of Wisconsin. Because of the state’s excellent facilities and resources, Wisconsin has the capability of becoming a key player in the biotechnology and clean energy fields. Doyle also took the occasion to announce the appointment of his first science advisor, UW-Madison’s Professor James Dahlberg: wistechnology.com/articles/4893/

WiSys Technology Foundation, UW-Stout, UW System, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point and Marshfield Clinic were joint sponsors. WiSys and UW-Stout organized the event to showcase innovative research from across the state and to provide a forum for networking and collaboration. The event featured presentations from leading researchers in areas such as life and material sciences. Researchers and representatives from several companies as well as a number of state government officials attended.
