Discussion Evaluation Rubric  (20 points per week/40 per every two week period)
Assignments posted and 2-3 responses to other posts each week.

Excellent
(20 points)
  • Discussion postings clearly indicate understanding of course readings and are completed before the close of each module, meet or exceed the minimum number required, and are straight to the point, clearly worded, and respond constructively to the ideas of others.
  • Discussion postings include thought-provoking questions or additional insights designed to elicit responses from other participants.
  • Responds to posts of others which are missing a clear connection to professional practice with an addition that makes that connection in a clear and professional manner.  
  • Includes a wide variety of appropriate, researched and informative sources (or references course materials) to support ideas. Quotes and sources of information are credited appropriately. (Does not need to be APA citations.)
  • Responses are posted to postings/questions of other participants and enhance the class discussion.
  • Enters discussion early enough in the module so as to return and add to the discussion in a timely manner.
Adequate
(15 points)
  • Discussion postings are generally timely, relevant and include some feedback about the readings and include responses to others' comments in the discussions.
  • Meets the minimum number of postings per week.
  • Discussion postings include questions that move beyond yes or no answers, and elicit responses from other participants.
  • Some evidence of critical analysis of a posted idea with no clear connections drawn to professional practice. 
  • Does not include a variety of appropriate, researched and informative sources (or references course materials) to support ideas.
  • Respondent waits until the end of the module to post, thereby not being able to fully engage in the ideas and discussion.
Partially Proficient
(10 points)
  • Discussion postings do not fully speak to the topic.
  • Posting's may address one element of a prompt, but fail to completely deal with the topic.
  • Discussion postings include questions that do not move beyond yes or no answers, and fail to elicit responses from other participants.
  • No inclusion of appropriate, researched and informative sources (or references course materials) to support ideas.
  • Late or so far at the end of the unit as to make no meaningful contribution.
  • Little evidence of critical analysis of a posted idea with no clear connections drawn to professional practice. 
Incomplete
(5 points)
  • Discussion postings are merely perfunctory. For example, many of the postings are "I think so too" or "I disagree" without elaboration of thinking, or there is excessive quoting from the readings without any significant supporting evidence of the topic.
  • Discussion postings include unclear questions that do not move beyond yes or no answers and/or fail to respond to classmates' postings.
  • No evidence of critical analysis of a posted idea with no clear connections drawn to professional practice. 
None
(0 points)
  • Participation is absent during any specific week.

Late policy:

Posts that are made after the close of a module will not be considered for points.
