A struggling reader in grades 2-12 will be chosen based upon established criteria. Following assessment and interpretation of the results, learning outcomes will be determined. Twelve lesson plans will be developed and implemented. Selected lesson plans will be video taped and submitted to the instructor. A summary of assessment and instruction will be compiled at the conclusion of the instruction.
Clinicians will be provided information from the instructor related to the criteria for choosing a child to assess during the practicum. Information regarding the child's development will be collected from the child's teachers and parents. The clinicians will administer informal reading and writing assessments including the Qualitative Reading Inventory 4.
Twelve instructional sessions with the child will be conducted. A concluding report will be prepared to convey information with the local school and the child's parents.
