What was the most meaningful and useful for you...

"... at a time when our district has created stress by cutting positions and increasing class numbers,  this course has given me a feeling of renewal.  I have new ideas and perceptions that I am eager to share with my co-workers.  I think this course has been extremely beneficial, and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the discussions with my classmates.   I look forward to another online class soon."
~ Media Specialist  from Rhode Island

"My challenge has been to ignite my enthusiasm.  This class has ignited that for me. Through this class I have been required to investigate and come to understand, Web 2.0."
~Media Specialist from Illinois

I was hoping to get all the answers in the class and through it learn exactly what I needed to be doing in order to feel more valuable in a high school media center setting. I just wanted someone to tell me what I needed to be doing. Instead, I was challenged and continually questioned about what I was doing.
~Media Specialist from Michigan

" The format of the class is wonderful, and I feel as if I have made new friends, even without meeting anyone face-to-face!
There is a saying that the road to heaven is paved with good intentions. If this is true, then I have a smooth road ahead of me.  Life somehow comes between what we want to accomplish and what we actually do accomplish. Sometimes we need more than a gentle push to get these good intentions done. This class has accomplished that for me. Some of the activities included in my portfolio I have thought about doing and some were new ideas I learned in this class. I am happy I have developed projects that I will actually use during this coming school year."

" The Desire2Learn online course delivery system is very user-friendly and easy to navigate.  I also enjoyed the capabilities of responding to peers' discussions, suggestions, and ideas. The modules created by the instructor were intense and very thought-provoking and provided much needed insight into the realms of our careers.

I learned more about the NCLB act and its impact on library/reading services.  The most useful information/skill I gained is the fact that we need to 'toot our horns' and be more visible to our school communities.

I gained a greater respect for my fellow media specialists who work within the public school systems. I was the only private/independent school media specialist in the class, and I am very glad for the opportunity to share my success/failure stories. Sharing through the discussions allowed me to view my position from a different angle.
Many thanks again for moderating this course. I am highly recommending it to my fellow independent school media specialists!
~ Media Specialist from Florida private school

"The three topics of leadership, collaboration and technology were the main threads of discussion during the course. These topics influence every aspect of the library media program. My goals for the course were to gain better understanding and insight into these issues, therefore, the course was a perfect fit for my needs. This course has energized my career at a time when I was feeling quite isolated.

It is reassuring and also empowering to hear that many of us are facing the same emerging issues in our school districts and that many of us have been successful in improving our programs."
~Media Specialist from, Illinois

You and everyone else in class are breaking my idea of the librarian stereotype, so now I feel like I might be just in the right place as a media specialist, after all, shushing and everything!  ~English teacher/future media specialist, International School

I feel that I not only met be exceeded the goals that I had set for myself during this course.  I certainly have learned so many new things but also have reinforced that many things that I have been doing at our IMC are correct and important.  My little adventure at our school’s IMC is short lived and not for many days but I definitely can say that I have made a difference within the school.  I would not have been able to be as successful without the skills that I learned from you Mary Alice and all of the other students.  Thank you–
~ School/public library Librarian from Wisconsin

"Mary Alice Anderson's dynamic teaching style, incredible dedication, and preparation are inspiring and kept me on track at all times. Mary Alice is a true treasure. You don't meet people like her very often. I feel I was very lucky to take this course; I was stretched by this course, and that was good. I have only had one teacher of her ilk before in my life, and she is regarded by catalogers as "the" teacher of her generation."
Media Specialist from Elmhurst, Illinois

" As I transition this year from the dual role of computer coordinator and library media specialist to "just" library media specialist, I look forward to implementing several new strategies to enhance the integration of technology into curricular areas in [my] School District. I will also be able to devote more time to communicating the mission of the library to a larger group of stakeholders, including the school board, staff, school administration, students, parents and general community members. My role will be that of instructing and assisting staff members in the use of technology and making their use of it easier. This may include greater use of data projectors, digital cameras, scanners, various utility software such as Publisher and PowerPoint, as well as better use of all of the print and internet resources we have available."
Media Specialist from Wisconsin

"This class has brought my love for my job back into focus for me and shown me that doing what I was before was exactly right. Now I will have the tools I need to pull myself back together and do what I do best."
Media Specialist from Germany

"I liked being able to communicate with people from around the world. Most often feedback was the same day. In a classroom situation, I might not have felt as comfortable asking or sharing some of the things I was able to online. I was able to do a lot of reflection."

"After completing an activity, a reading, or discussion, I went back to my school and tried out what I learned. It was awesome! I actually felt like this course was worth my time and money and hope that Mary Alice teaches another course!"
Media Specialist from Michigan

"I know that this course has made me 1,000 times stronger as a candidate for any job. I even applied to a position closer to my home last Tuesday, and it was a great interview, all due to this course...so thank you!"
Media Specialist from Massachusetts

"This course discusses what schools are looking for in a 21st century school librarian. It brings to the forefront issues pertaining to the changes in the librarian?s role."
Media Specialist from Germany

"Reading about how to conduct staff development and appropriate staff development activities was great. Our school LMC's need as much PR as we can muster at this point, and I got lots of great ideas to assist me with that PR."
Media Specialist from Iowa

"The most useful/relevant activity was the discussion about relationships with my principal...how to garner more of his support; what to share with him and how important it is to share information with him."

I enjoyed Mary Alice Anderson's 'down to earth' approach and her very useful articles."
Media Specialist from Ohio

" If you can't see a future for your profession, if you don't know how to relate with information technology, or need urgently to update your job description, go for this course. It's a very ?user friendly? course, very well designed, clear, excellent content, and an excellent, flexible and caring instructor."
Media Specialist from Lima, Peru

"The collegial environment and online discussion were terrific! Most helpful activity was the outreach plan. It caused me to think in a proactive way about spreading the word on the media center and its role in the school setting."
~Media Specialist from Pennsylvania
