Alignment with the National Education Technology Plan
Goal #6 of the 2005 National Educational Technology Plan is to move toward digital content. “A perennial problem for schools, teachers, and students is that print textbooks are increasingly expensive, quickly outdated, and physically cumbersome. A move away from reliance on print textbooks to the use of multimedia or online information (digital content) offers many advantages, including cost savings, increased efficiency, improved accessibility, and enhancing learning opportunities in a format that engages today’s web-savvy students.”
Handheld computers add capacity and flexibility that, to be exploited, require re-conceptualization of learning activities giving students more opportunity to explore and learn through problem-based investigations.
Alignment with Teaching Standards
Participants in this class will gain experience that will help them meet the following criteria of the Wisconsin Teaching Standards: 3,4,7 and National Education Technology Standards for Teachers, International Society for Technology in Education, 2008: 1,2,3,4,5.
American Association of School Librarians Standards for the 21st Century Learner
