Sara Turansky teaches EDUC 744 914 Methods of Teaching Middle School Math and EDUC 744 965 Issues and Problems in Teaching Primary Mathematics

Sara teaches math methods courses at Emirates College for Advanced Education in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.  Her professional activities there include teaching, curriculum design, and action research.

Sara taught middle school for the past twenty-two years and designed and implemented an online pre-algebra curriculum for seventh and eight grade students. Sara also worked as a resource facilitator in the high school at the American Community School, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This position allowed her to provide extra one-on-one or small-group help to students struggling in math.

Sara feels that middle school students are unique and need to be motivated in special ways.  Many of them have negative math experiences in the past and she is determined this obstacle can be overcome with motivating activities, differentiation, and implementing best practics.

Sara was honored to win the prestigious Blue Web'n award for one of her web-based curriculum projects, Eating Disorders: A Webquest for Seventh and Eighth Grade.

Sara graduated magna cum laude from Western Michigan University and earned a Master of Arts in Education with concentration in mathematics from Western Michigan University. She completed a second Masters degree in Online Teaching and Learning from California State University/Hayward in 2003.
