Phyl Burger is an Adjunct Instructor in the School of Education at University of Wisconsin-Stout. She develops mentoring, bully awareness and prevention programs for schools, is a skilled public speaker, and facilitates student, teacher and community in-service and professional development seminars. She has been interviewed for feature news articles on the topic of bullying, cyberbullying, student harassment and violence in schools.
Ms. Burger has been an invited seminar and keynote speaker for conferences including the Wisconsin Education Association Council, Wisconsin School Counselor Association, Minnesota Teacher Education and the Minnesota Juvenile Officers Association.
The fall 2006 issue of the Iowa Council of Social Studies (ICSS) journal featured Ms Burger's article, "Citizenship--Local to Global: Changing the World One
Child at a Time." Burger discusses how an ethic of caring can provide the framework for building the next generation of leaders through
communicating, decision making and modeling by empathetic adults.
Phyl was selected as a contest judge by MindOh!, a non-profit organization that empowers youth to achieve their full potential through innovative character education programs that inspire moral and ethical behavior. The topic was bullying, and students were asked to share their thoughts and ideas about how to take a stand and end bullying.
Phyl earned a BA degree in Education and an MA degree in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska - Kearney and completed postgraduate studies at the University of Northern Iowa. Phyl's work in K-12 education includes leadership experience as a classroom teacher, vocational education supervisor, elementary principal, educational consultant, director of special needs programs and university adjunct professor.
Currently Phyl is a business and education consultant based in St. Paul, Minnesota.
