Web Design for Educators
Intermediate Web Design

Jim is the retired chairman of the language arts department at Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, having taught for thirty-two years in the district. He also served for three years as the district's coordinator of fine and performing arts, for which he was cited by the Iowa Arts Council.

Jim received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bowling Green State University, majoring in English and speech, and his M.A. in School Administration (Curriculum Development) from the University of Iowa. He received a Blue Web'n Award for his web site, Trekking to Troy.

Before discovering the computer, Jim's creative outlet was designing for the theater. His designs have appeared from the Maine State Music Theater to the University of Alaska - Fairbanks, where he and his wife taught for three summers at the Summer Fine Arts Camp. This involvement in theater has definitely been an asset in dealing with visual design on the computer.

Jim has been a member of the Professional Development faculty since 1998. His students have received numerous awards and recognitions for their Web sites.

Jim's other activities include working with his Lions Club, for which he serves as the coordinator of the vision screening program. He is also a volunteer for the Iowa Radio Reading Information Service (IRIS), reading to the blind over KSUI radio in Iowa City. He recently joined the local barbershop chorus (he sings lead), and on occasion you'll find him dressed as Clifford the Big Red Dog when he volunteers for the Friends of the Cedar Rapids Public Library.
