Carolyn Horton teaches Developmental Reading and Instructional Techniques for Assisting Students with Reading Difficulties and as a reading specialist in assessment, instructional and content area strategies, has served as an elementary school teacher and a Title 1 reading specialist.
She also worked as a District Reading Facilitator assisting teachers with their classroom reading and language arts programs and has taught at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Presently she is on the faculty at Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she teaches courses in reading assessment and instructional methods for struggling readers.
Carolyn has conducted workshops throughout the region on instructional strategies in reading and language arts. She has authored and co-authored materials to be used by teachers in their classroom
Ms. Horton earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Wheaton College. She has a Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in Reading from Murray State University, and has completed post-graduate work at the University of Iowa.
Carolyn and her husband reside in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. When Carolyn is not teaching, she enjoys genealogy, reading and working out at the gym. She and her husband frequently travel to the Chicago suburbs to visit their first grandchild.
