Teaching English Language Learners (ESL) in General Education

This course offers classroom teachers, school psychologists, counselors, speech pathologists, and administrators effective strategies and practical methods of differentiated instruction for English language learners and includes steps to increase parent involvement in the school and community.

Includes a discussion of current trends, research, and best practices in teaching English Language Learners in the inclusive general education classroom. Stages of second language acquisition, strategies using nonlinguistic representations for communication with ESL students, and differentiated instruction that combines teaching content and developing language skills will be discussed.
