If you are borrowing the Federal Stafford Loan for the first time at UW-Stout, you must complete the following processes before the loan can disburse:

1. Entrance Loan Counseling

Entrance Loan Counseling is designed to help you understand your rights and responsibilities as a new borrower of the Federal Stafford Loan. The online session will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

  1. Click here to start entrance loan counseling (new browser window will open).
  2. Sign in with your FSA ID (as of May 2015, you need an FSA ID instead of a PIN).
  3. Click on 'Complete Counseling' in the middle of the page.
  4. Click on the 'Start Entrance Counseling' button.
  5. Select Wisconsin for School State and select University of Wisconsin - Stout from the dropdown.
  6. Click 'Notify This School'.
  7. Select if you are an undergraduate or graduate/professional student, and click 'Continue'.
  8. Complete entrance loan counseling.
  9. Complete the Counseling Session/Quiz and Submit the information.   
  10. Close the window to return to this page or complete the Master Promissory Note (if required).
 

2.  Master Promissory Note (MPN)

The electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN) must be completed in a single session. Be sure you have enough time before you start this step! The eMPN will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Collect all required information prior to beginning this step.

If you exit the eMPN before submitting, you will have to start from the beginning when you return to the site.

  1. Click here to start eMPN (new browser window will open).
  2. Sign in with your FSA ID (as of May 2015, you need an FSA ID instead of a PIN).
  3. Click on 'Complete a Master Promissory Note' in the middle of the page.
  4. Select Subsidized/Unsubsidized as the MPN Type Selection.
  5. Complete the MPN.
  6. When listing references, the first reference should be a parent or legal guardian.
  7. Review your MPN before submitting.
