Parental Notification for Underage Alcohol Violations

Parental Notification for Underage Alcohol Violations

The University of Wisconsin-Stout responds to all underage drinking offenses received by students, whether on-campus or in the Menomonie Community. First offense underage consumption citations outside of the residence halls or in the Menomonie Community will result in either a letter from the Dean of Students Office to the offending student or a meeting with the Investigating Officer to determine if sanctions are warranted.

Students will be notified that beginning with a second underage drinking offense, parental notification will usually occur. Parents will be notified by letter written by one of the two Investigating/Hearing Officers. However, if the Dean of Students or either of the two Investigating/Hearing Officers feels it is not in the best interest of the student to notify parents, they have the prerogative of deciding not to do so.

On-campus resident students will usually meet with the Hall Director for in-hall incidents and receive a sanction letter based on the Housing Code of Conduct.  Parental contact by the Housing staff may occur as early as the first incident involving alcohol.  Students with multiple offenses or high blood alcohol levels may be referred to the Dean of Students Office for adjudication under the campus conduct system.
