Dismissal Status
If you have been notified that you have been dismissed from UW-Stout as a result of your academic performance this past semester, you are not eligible to return next semester. Please review the university policy for Undergraduate Probation, Dismissal and Withdrawal.

You have several options to consider:

  1. Since you are ineligible to return for the Fall semester, you may want to use this time to review and, if necessary, adjust your priorities, study skills, career options, your financial situation, or other personal matters to help insure success in your next academic and/or vocational opportunity.
  2. While it may have no effect on your academic status or ability to be fully readmitted to UW-Stout, you are eligible to attend summer school or WinTerm at UW-Stout to retake previously failed courses and/or to improve your overall academic record. Currently scheduled summer classes will not be canceled and you will be responsible for any financial obligations for these credits, unless you choose to cancel your registration.
  3. Although rarely granted, you may appeal the University dismissal policy if you feel you experienced circumstances so unusual and out of the ordinary that your academic performance was significantly and temporarily impacted.

Appeal Process
You are not encouraged to pursue the appeal process unless you can clearly document, by external, objective sources (e.g. newspaper article; physician's or counselor's statement; court-related information) an event or situation that had direct implications on your academic performance this semester. Only you, the student, may file an appeal.

Your appeal of academic dismissal must be made fully in writing and filed with the Dean of Students Office by 4:30 p.m. (CST) Tuesday, June 18, 2013. You may submit your appeal by mail, fax, or via web site as soon as you learn your status.

The reasons discussed in your appeal statement must be supported with dated documentation; this is not returnable but will be held in confidence. Consideration of your appeal will be possible only after your written appeal has been received and you have provided the required documentation.

Please follow the steps below:

  1. As soon as possible, complete the web based appeal form to fully explain the reasons for your academic performance this semester.  This appeal form MUST BE RECEIVED by the Dean of Students office ON OR BEFORE 4:30 p.m. (CST) Tuesday, June 18, 2013.
  2. Documentation explaining and/or supporting the reasons claimed in your appeal statement MUST ALSO BE RECEIVED by the Dean of Students office by 4:30 p.m. (CST) Tuesday, June 18, 2013. Failure to submit documentation may result in the denial of your appeal.
  3. Upon receipt of your appeal form, the Dean of Students Office will review your appeal and decide if the appeal is denied or whether you will be readmitted on academic probation. You will be informed of the appeal decision by your university e-mail account.
