Purpose and Intent of Award

Merle Price provided more than 40 years of service to UW-Stout and had a significant impact upon countless students. As a faculty member and Dean of Men, Merle Price exemplified a deep commitment to the welfare of students. In his name, the McCord Family Trust is committed to outstanding service by academic staff. This annual award of $1,000 is intended to recognize academic staff for excellence in service to UW-Stout, its mission and its students. Award dollars are to be utilized to enhance professional development or improve the work environment in accordance with university guidelines and policies.

Award Committee (selection determined by consensus)

—Member of the Chancellor’s Administrative Leadership Team, selected by Chancellor (1)
—Assistant Chancellor for University Development or designee (1)
—Member of McCord family or designee (1)

Distribution and Report

—Funds must be used within one calendar year of award
—Start date: August 1; End date: July 31
—Final report due: 60 days after end date

Criteria

The award committee will seek evidence of outstanding service from an academic staff member. The committee will consider academic staff members with at least five years of experience at UW-Stout and will not make the award to the same individual more than once every five years. Evidence of excellence must focus on the present and/or previous academic year. Evidence of excellence should include, but is not limited to:

—Service to UW-Stout

—Support of the UW-Stout mission

—Service to students

—Receive the award at Fall Opening Day

Documentation Required

—Vitae

—Two letters of support from colleagues knowledgeable of the applicant’s outstanding service

—Letter of endorsement from supervisor

—Narrative, no more than three pages in length, providing evidence of the applicant’s outstanding service
