Chancellor's Academic Staff Award For Excellence

Purpose
This $5000 award is a recognition of and investment in an academic staff individual who has demonstrated outstanding ability and performance and shows potential for future professional contributions to UW-Stout. One award will be given annually as determined by the criteria set forth, with final approval by the Chancellor.
Eligibility
All academic staff with more than six years of full-time experience at UW-Stout are eligible.
Use of Funds
Funds must be expended in alignment with UW-Stout policies: The recipient of this award is to be engaged in professional activities which contribute to UW-Stout’s mission, with funds used for professional development related costs, including travel, support, and supplies.
Application Process
An individual may self-nominate or be nominated. The application will include a memo limited to two pages which describes the applicant’s ongoing contributions to UW-Stout (and the profession), three letters of recommendation from supervisors and colleagues, and a current resume. The memo will include a description of the activities which will enhance the individual’s future professional contributions to the university. Funds are awarded July 1 and must be spent or encumbered prior to June 30.
Criteria
- The applicant’s performance is consistently and notably beyond that which the position requires.
- The applicant demonstrates initiative and creativity as documented in peer observations, unit/department reviews, and/or student evaluations.
- Specific contributions to the department, institution, and/or profession are stated and are supported by the three letters of recommendation required in the application.
- The applicant shows potential for future professional contributions to UW-Stout.
- Evidence of leadership is demonstrated by the individual selected.
- The overall quality of the application will be considered by the committee in the selection process.
Timeline
November 1: Senate of Academic Staff sends out application information
February 2: Senate of Academic Staff announces extended deadline for applications and sends out reminder.
February 15: Proposal due to Research Services.
February 16-28: Research Services routes proposals for appropriate campus signatures (individual, Chair and Dean [or unit supervisor], Provost or Vice Chancellor).
March 2: Research Services forwards applications to Academic Staff Professional
Development Committee for review. The committee makes recommendations to
Chair of Senate of Academic Staff.
March 21: Chair meets with the Chancellor to review applications and committee’s recommendations.
April 16: Recommendation presented to Senate of Academic Staff for confirmation. Recommendation forwarded to Chancellor.
April 20: Chancellor’s decision and final approval to Senate of Academic Staff and individual. (Research Services provides copies to appropriate offices).
July 1-June 30: Award period.
Recognition
The recipient will be recognized university wide.
Report
A written report is required within thirty days after the end of the award year. This report will be submitted to the Chancellor, to the Chair of the Senate of Academic Staff, and to Research Services. The report will include an account of how the money was used and how the award has benefited the recipient professionally in his/her role at UW-Stout.
Change of Procedure
The Chancellor, with advice from appropriate organizations or individuals, may modify the emphasis and the size of the award for any given year.
