Advisement and Registration Tips
Undergraduate Students
- The schedule of Advisement Day meetings and location of
degree audits will be sent to all students via UW-stout email
approximately one week prior to Advisement Day. This same e-mail will
also include each student’s registration date, time, and any
restrictions (that must be cleared before registration can
occur). You may also view this information online.
- Determine your date and time to register for
classes by referring to your Degree Audit. Your assigned registration
day/time appears on the upper left corner of your Degree Audit. Any
restrictions that may prevent you from registering will also be
displayed. This same information will be emailed to all students via
UW-Stout email accounts approximately two weeks prior to each
registration session.
- Make an appointment to see your advisor if you
don’t have a required meeting on Advisement Day. If you do not know who
your advisor is, contact the office of the program director for your
major or the Advisement and Career Center, 11 Bowman Hall, ext.
1465.
During your appointment review your Degree Audit, plan
course selection for the next semester and get updated on requirements
in your program. Discuss minors, concentrations, specializations and
co-ops. Talk about your goals and work together to select courses you
are prepared to take and will lead toward graduation and the career you
want.
- Check your Degree Audit for accuracy of
information. Discuss your questions with your advisor. Updates
to your Catalog Year should be made in the Advisement and Career Center,
11 Bowman Hall.
- Clear any restrictions or holds on your record
before your registration date.
- Draft a tentative schedule of your choice of
classes using the class
schedule worksheet.
- Check your choice of classes online
to see if they are still available.
- Choose one option for
registration
Via the web: From the
UW-Stout homepage select Access Stout
and follow instructions. You will not be able to register until your
pre-assigned registration date and time. You will have the ability to
add/drop anytime after your assigned registration date and
time.
In-person: Complete the Program Card with
your final choices for classes, giving special attention to the Synonym
Number, Subject Code, Course and Section Numbers. Bring your completed
Program Card to the Registration and Records Office, 109 Bowman Hall,
between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on your assigned date, at your assigned
time (or later). If you aren’t able to come in person on your
assigned date and time you can give your Program Card to someone else to
process for you. Your registration will be processed on the spot and you
will receive a printed copy of your class schedule.
- Add or Drop changes can be processed through AccessStout
or on a Program Change Card in the Registration and Records Office.
However, if special permission is required or consent is needed to get
into a course, a signature on a Program Change Card will be necessary.

Degree Audit Report --- Undergraduate Checking Progress
Toward Degree Completion A degree audit is
a computerized report that compares a student's academic record
(current schedule and completed courses) to the requirements in a
degree program, including concentrations and minors. The audit indicates
what requirements have been satisfied and what requirements still need to
be completed. A “what if” audit will do the same analysis for any degree
program and concentration, however it does not work for
minors.
Students can view and print their own audits from
Access Stout, or request one from the Advisement and Career Center, 11
Bowman Hall.
Registration Holds Due To Remedial
Education New freshmen whose
scores on English or mathematics placement tests require them to enroll in
ENGL 090 or MATH 010 are required to pass these courses before completing
30 credits.
If you are required to take the Remedial English course
ENGL 090 and/or the Remedial mathematics course MATH 010, you must
complete the course(s) with an acceptable grade in order to register for
further English and/or Math courses.
Confirm Your Program The accuracy of a Degree
Audit depends on the accuracy of your declared major, concentration and
minor. To assist in the successful implementation of Degree Audit, please
be sure to check your Degree Audit to see that it states your major,
concentration and minor correctly. If there are any errors, see the
Advisement and Career Center immediately, to fill out a Program Change
Form. Your help in keeping records up-to-date is greatly appreciated!
Graduate Credit
Enrollees All students enrolling for graduate credit
must have applied and been accepted by the Graduate School before they can
register for graduate credits. If you need information on applying,
contact the Graduate School in Room 130 Bowman Hall, phone 715-232-2211 or
visit us online. The student is
responsible for adhering to university and Graduate School
policies.
To ensure registration in appropriate courses, you must
consult with your Graduate Program Director as assigned in your
admission/acceptance letter. The Advisor for Graduate Non-Degree Special
Students is currently Ms. Claudia Johnston. Note that selected programs
require the advisor consultation for removal of a Registration Advisement
Hold.
Continuing and
New Students (Graduate) After consultation with your program
director, you may register via the web using Access Stout or by submitting
your completed registration form to the Registration and Records Office,
109 Bowman Hall. Please check Registration and
Records website for Spring and WinTerM 2006 registration dates.
NOTE: Once
the term begins, the Access Stout web option is no longer available and
instructors’ signatures are required for each course before you submit
your registration form to Registration and Records. All students must
register for classes by the 10th day of the semester.
Obtain your schedule/registration confirmation
either by printing a copy from the web using Access Stout after you finish
registering, or by picking one up when registering in Registration and
Records, 109 Bowman Hall.
Re-entry students:
Complete the Graduate Student
Records Information Update and Residency Verification form
(104-0122). You must submit the completed form to the Graduate School
office to update residency information and activate registration
capability before you may register; then refer to the information above
for Continuing and New Students.
Credit Load and Course Restrictions Graduate students
may not register for more than 16 credits. Undergraduates may not register
for courses numbered 500 or greater. These are open to graduate students
only.
Degree Progress Be sure to review
your degree progress according to the Student
Progress Sheet which is on the inside cover of your Graduate
Bulletin. Contact the Graduate School if you need additional information
and instructions. Some graduate students are at the point when they should
be applying for admission to candidacy. If you are in your last term of
graduate work, contact the Graduate School to obtain the information and
forms needed to apply for such candidacy.
