Calculating Your Grade Point Average

Cumulative grade point averages are determined by the grade point system; they are computed by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total number of credits attempted.

Point values for the various letter grades are as follows:

Other Marks *

  • AU = Audit
  • I = Incomplete
  • IP = In Progress
  • WS = Withdrawal Satisfactory
  • WU = Withdrawal Unsatisfactory
  • W = Withdrawal from school assigned by Advisement Assistance Center personnel, or by Registrar to indicate a class was "never attended"
* Not used as "credits attempted" in calculating grade point average. A student who fails to withdraw from the university or drop courses will receive grades as assigned by instructors or grades of "F" in courses of record for the term.



Calculating a Change in Your Grade Point Average
If you wish to calculate what your grade point average would be with either a grade change in a specific course or if a course would be repeated, complete the form below. You'll need a copy of your transcript, available from the Registration and Records Office, 109 Bowman Hall.
