Board of Regents Meeting

Charles Sorensen

On behalf of our students, faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to UW-Stout. We are pleased and honored to host the meeting of the UW System Board of Regents on our campus. I am sure that you will have a productive and enjoyable experience.

Many things have changed at UW-Stout since the last time we had the privilege of hosting this gathering. Our campus has been transformed physically, particularly through the addition of our Jarvis Hall science building and a renovated Memorial Student Center.  I hope you take the time to walk our campus and see these remarkable changes.

We also have experienced tremendous enrollment growth, having added about 2,000 students, bringing our enrollment to nearly 9,400.

At the heart of this growth has been the addition of about 20 new and exciting undergraduate majors that fit well at the cutting edge of today’s economy: applied science; computer engineering; plastics engineering; video game design and development; health, wellness and fitness; and sustainable management.  Also, this fall we will begin offering an MFA program through our new School of Art and Design, and we have created an Honors College in response to impressive growth in our honors program.

These new programs complement our traditional undergraduate and graduate degrees that continue to offer our students excellent job prospects after leaving UW-Stout. We have maintained an employment rate for our new graduates of 97 percent or higher, even through our most recent recession.

You will hear much more about our campus during your visit.  I also would like to mention that this is Homecoming week here at Stout, and we hope you will take in some of those activities and events while you are here.

Again, welcome to UW-Stout and please let us know if we can assist you in any way.

Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen
