On behalf of our students, faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to UW-Stout. We are pleased and honored to host the meeting of the UW System Board of Regents on our campus. I am sure that you will have a productive and enjoyable experience.
It is entirely appropriate that we host this meeting in 2017. Earlier this year, we marked the 10-year anniversary of UW-Stout being designated by the Board of Regents as Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University. Since that time, our campus has been transformed in so many ways physically – with a renovated Harvey Hall and our Memorial Student Center, along with the addition of our Jarvis Hall science building – and academically, with a doubling of our undergraduate program offerings and three consecutive years of enrollment records.
What has remained the same, however, is our focus on giving our students an applied-learning education that will lead to a successful career right after graduation. I am proud to report that our 2015-16 graduates had an amazing 97.4 percent employment rate within six months of leaving campus. I am also pleased that this employment rate has increased each year of my tenure as UW-Stout chancellor.
Hosting this meeting is special for me on a personal basis; I have a very deep connection to UW-Stout. I came here in the 1970s as a student, met my wife Debbie here, received two degrees from UW-Stout and worked here as a faculty member, college dean and administrator before leaving for six years to serve as president of Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College. It was the thrill of a lifetime to be asked to serve my alma mater as chancellor a little over three years ago. One of my daughters also is a UW-Stout alumni, while the other graduated from UW-Madison.
So please enjoy your time at UW-Stout and let us know if we can assist you in any way.
Chancellor Bob Meyer
