University of Wisconsin - Stout

The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents' Business and Finance Committee resolved on Friday, February 5, 1999, that UW-Stout could charge "differential tuition," or market rates, for customized instruction programs.

Resolution 7841:
That, upon the recommendation of the President of the University of Wisconsin System and the Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Stout, the UW-Stout differential tuition flexibility to determine and charge market rates for customized programs, certificates, and courses for which credit will be awarded, beginning in 1999-2000, be approved, and incorporated in the 1999-2000 UW-System annual budget and tuition schedule.

There are two steps to charging different tuition rates for your customized instruction programs:

First, your program must be approved for customized instruction and special tuition rates using the Customized Instruction Program Approval Form [PDF] and supporting documentation. Supporting documentation includes tuition rate, expected resulting revenue, enrollment assumptions, market demand, and plans for use of funds.
Next, you must notify the Provost's Office which courses/sections you intend to offer --each semester-- using the Customized Instruction Program: Course Section Approval Form [PDF].

Documentation showing approval of the customized tuition rate for your program must be on file in the Provost's Office to avoid delays in verification of course/sections. When the Provost's Office receives section approval forms, tuition rates are verified, Student Business Services is informed, and tuition rates for the appropriate sections are adjusted. Student bills are processed smoothly and without delay.

If segregated fees are to be waived for these course/sections, the appropriate information should be provided for approval as well.

Students must be notified in advance of customized instruction tuition rates. Rates must be published in all course timetables and promotional materials. Comments/notes must be verified by the Provost's Office prior to printing.

Using this procedure, appropriate charges and/or waivers are assessed during student registration and billing.
