Links below direct you to appropriate sites in the Curriculum Handbook when developing a new program. It is recommended that you work closely with the Provost's Office as you begin new program development. Program development goals are documented on UW-Stout's Academic Plan, and all new initiatives are added by contacting the Provost's Office.
The three stages of program development defined by UW System's Guidelines for Academic Program Review and Regent Policy ACIS-1.0 are:
- Entitlement: Request for Entitlement to Plan a New Program
(requires both campus & UW System approval) - Authorization: Authorization to Implement the New Program
(requires campus, UW System, and Board of Regents' approval) - Implementation: Implementation of the New Academic Program
(requires that the Provost inform UWS of implementation date)
Formats for Entitlement and Authorization are included in ACIS-1.0.
For new majors and submajors,
- Steps in developing a new major
- Format for on-campus implementation of new submajors
(This is the same format used for program revision. Submajors include minors, concentrations, specializations, and certificates. This is required program documentation and includes the required course list.) - Course Listing Format for Programs (to be included with implementation document)
- Definitions of Concentrations and Minors
- Definition of Specializations
- Proposing a Specialization
- Professional Development Certificates
