In the Information Age, you will discover that your success in your career will depend largely on how well you communicate, especially in writing. The technical writing minor increases your chances of being hired and enhances your prospects for being promoted.

Technical writing, in its broadest sense, is any writing done on the job, from reports, business letters, and instructional manuals to web pages, multimedia programs, and software help menus. This minor enhances on-the-job writing skills in many programs, such as Computer Science, Food Science Technology, General Business Administration, Graphic Communication Management, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, and Packaging. In a 1996 survey of working professionals done at North Carolina State University, 90 percent said that the quality of their writing was either essential or very important in the performance of their jobs, and 82 percent said it was either essential or very important their advancement.
