General UW-Stout Graduate Studies Application Process

All prospective students must follow a standard application process that includes a general application for graduate study at UW-Stout. Information is available on the Graduate Studies website.

Application Deadline:  February 1, 2013 for a Fall 2013 start. There is no Spring semester enrollment period.

Additional Required Application Materials:

To apply for the MFA in Design program, candidates will need to apply to the UW-Stout Graduate School (see above) and submit the following additional application materials to the MFA in Design program director:

1. Visual Portfolio:
   
   • 15-20 examples of creative/professional work from your area(s) of expertise submitted via CD or DVD in .pdf file format.
   • Include a brief written description list (50 words or fewer) of each example contextualizing the work and describing your role.

   • A limit of 5 motion/video images will be accepted as part of the total 15-20 examples.  Each motion/video submission shall be no more than 3 minutes in length.  Website links are also acceptable submissions.

2. Written Statement of Interest.   This two to three-page statement should describe your goals for graduate study, your potential research question(s) for exploration, and also reference and contextualize your work included in the visual portfolio.

3. Resume’ or Curriculum Vitae.

4. Candidate Recommendation Form.  You must secure three (3) individuals who can qualify you as a potential graduate student and attest to your academic performance and experience within your profession. Each recommender must complete the Candidate Recommendation Form and submit it directly to the MFA in Design Program Director.
