Admissions Process

Incoming Freshmen

Art Concentration applicants must submit a portfolio and essay to be reviewed by a committee of Art and Design department faculty, who will determine admissions into the major. Students must submit their portfolio and essay to the Game Design and Development Program Office by the second Monday in January.

Computer Science Concentration applicants must meet all of the following requirements: 

  • Rank in the top 40 percent of their class (or for high schools that do not rank, earn a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale)

  • Minimum ACT composite score of 23 (or SAT equivalent)

  • Minimum ACT math score of 24 (or SAT equivalent). 

If you do not meet all of the academic requirements, a personal essay and letter of recommendation from a math or science teacher must be submitted to the Game Design and Development Program Office by the second Monday in January.


Transfer Students


Art Concentration

You must have a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA, and a grade of C or higher for all art and design courses already taken.

Computer Science Concentration

You must have a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA, and a grade of C or higher for all math and computer science courses already taken to be admitted into the computer science concentration of the game design and development program.  You must also have completed the equivalent of UW-Stout's Math 121 Intro to College Math II (Trigonometry) or a higher level math course with a grade of C or better.


 

All Applicants

Students not selected for admission to the program may choose to enter the university as "undeclared" and apply for a change of major in subsequent semesters. Acceptance of change of major may be dependent upon available openings in the program.
