Obtaining a Field Experience

Attend Field Experience meeting held by the coordinator for Dietetic field experience, at least two semesters before you plan to enroll.

Obtain a position or varied positions for a total of 320 hours. The position may be paid or unpaid. Supervisor must be a Registered Dietitian (R.D.). Students have completed internships at hospitals, public health offices, WIC clinics, diabetes camps and Camp Ronald McDonald.

Complete the field experience application (available in HE 202). Develop six outcome objectives related to your position(s) and the paper outline.

Make an appointment with the coordinator for Dietetic Field Experience for the approval of your field experience and application. Bring drop/add cards to be signed by field experience coordinator and degree audit report.

Register for 1 credit, course number FN-397E prior to beginning the work experience. Add card must be signed by field experience coordinator. Take add card to Registration and Records office.

Register for the second credit, course number FN-397C at the beginning of the semester you plan to give your seminar. The add card requires the field experience coordinator's signature. Note: Portfolio and Seminar are due about three weeks after beginning of semester. Sign-up outside of the field experience coordinator's office door for seminar date.
