Mathematics Education Concentration

Teaching mathematics is a highly rewarding and challenging career. As society grows ever more dependent on technology, students need to develop technical skills as well as problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. The Mathematics Education concentration develops these skills by exposing students to mathematics, computer science, statistics and the necessary facets of education in order to be a successful mathematics teacher in today’s world. Students will be prepared to teach at the middle and senior high school levels.

Future mathematics teachers should have an aptitude for helping others and a love of mathematics. Graduates of the program are eligible for licensure in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Education Association Council reports a shortage of mathematics teachers in Wisconsin.
