Admissions Process

Freshman Applicants

Applicants must submit a portfolio and essay to be reviewed by a faculty committee, who will determine admissions into the major. After being accepted to Stout, students will receive a URL to submit their portfolio and essay to the BFA Program. Priority deadline is no later than noon on the second Monday in January.

Students not selected for admission to the program may choose to enter the university as "undeclared" and apply for a change of major in subsequent semesters.


Transfer Students

You must have a 2.5 or higher accumulative GPA, and a grade of C or higher in order to receive credit for any art and design courses already taken.

Effective 2017, transfer students accepted into this BFA will start the program in the spring semester. Fall semesters are reserved for incoming freshman only. Students applying for fall will enter the university as "undeclared" and apply for a change of major in subsequent semesters. Students who enter as "undeclared" an go through the change of major in subsequent semesters are not guaranteed admission to the program of their choice.

Spring 2017 priority deadline for transfer students is no later than noon on the first Monday in August.

 

Internal Change of Major Students

To change your major or to add/drop a second major, you must complete an official Change of Major Form. To learn more, go to the Advisement Center website "Change of Major" page  -- be sure to read all the information under "Art Change of Major/Concentration."
