Admissions Process

Freshman Applicants

In addition to the standard UW-Stout admissions criteria, applicants pursuing Graphic Design and Interactive Media must also submit a portfolio and essay to be reviewed by a committee of Art and Design department faculty, who will determine admission into the major. Priority deadline is no later than 4:30 p.m. on the second Monday of January. Decisions will be made by early February on portfolios received by priority deadline. All applicants will be notified by mid to late February. Late and incomplete portfolios may be considered as space permits.

Transfer Students

Important: Transfer students must be admitted to the university before you can submit your portfolio. Preferred consideration will be given to completed portfolios that are received by the due date. Priority deadline is no later than 4:30 p.m. on the second Monday of January. Decisions will be made by early February on portfolios received by priority deadline. All applicants will be notified by mid to late February. Late and incomplete portfolios may be considered as space permits.

Internal Change of Major Students

To change your major or to add/drop a second major, you must complete an official Change of Major Form. To learn more, go to the Advisement Center website "Change of Major" page  -- be sure to read all the information under "Art Change of Major/Concentration."
