Building a Business as Great as our Products

In 2001, the chairman and CEO at the time, Bob Lane, acknowledged that although John Deere was a fabulous enterprise in so many ways, results lagged. He attributed this to the company being asset-heavy and margin lean.  He also stated that the company used too much inventory, receivables, and plant and equipment to serve its customers well; and that the cost structure was too high and needed improvement.

This presentation will highlight the manufacturing improvements in asset and operating efficiency that has helped Deere achieve a minimum 20% operating return on operating assets at normal sales volumes and help fund Deere’s growth ambition.
