UW-Stout awards credit through standardized tests such as 

  • College-Level Examination Program (CLEP
  • Departmental Exam

College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) allows students to take examinations for college credit for knowledge gained through:

  • independent study
  • advanced high school courses
  • noncredit adult courses
  • professional development 

Students must score 50 or higher to receive credit.

Only certain CLEP exams transfer to credit at UW-Stout:

Department exams are given at the discretion of the program director.
