Mission/Purpose

To provide the entire campus with a constant supply of steam in the most efficient, reliable, and safest way possible.

 

Information

  • The Central Heating Plant at UW-Stout has a total available capacity of 202,000 pounds of steam per hour.
  • The plant is staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, year round; with the exception of an annual shutdown period for maintenance.
  • We have the capacity to burn three different types of fuels:
    • Natural gas: normally summer fuel
    • Coal: normally for winter fuel
    • Ultra low sulfur fuel oil: emergency backup fuel
