The academic recycling program began in 1991 with a pilot program in three buildings. Our department currently collects recyclable materials from all Academic Buildings, Heating Plant and Grounds.
Items collected include; glass containers, steel containers, aluminum containers, plastic containers, mixed paper, corrugated, polystyrene, shrink wrap, toner cartridges, lead acid batteries, dry cell batteries, waste tires, waste oil, pallets, scrap metal, scrap wood, major appliances, florescent light tubes and power plant ash. Small yard waste is composted on campus and larger items are taken to off campus collection points.
Centralized containers are in all academic buildings for collection of recycled materials.
Three R's to follow in relation to items used:
- Reduce - reduce the number of items used whenever possible
- Reuse - reuse items as many times as possible
- Recycle - recycle items when they are no longer useful
Please remember to purchase post consumer recycled content items to complete the recycling circle.
Thanks for assisting with keeping our university and community green.
